Welcome to my blog, NuDogTrix!
Blogging is brand new to me. In fact, you are accompanying me on a new embarkment of my life. I thought I was up with the times because I actually text (Oh, yes!) and I occasionally answer an email (when I get around to it.) Resisting the gravity forces that draw most to Facebook and blogs has been easy. I just didn't get it or maybe I didn't want "one more thing" on my To-Do list. The idea of creating a blog, well, isn't that for young kids with lots of time on their hands and the "techies" of the world. In other words, not for me; a 49 year old wife, mother, homemaker, Instructional Aide, student, PTA, and other labels that require skillful juggling. Hence the name of my blog which came from the saying, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks."
So, I have accepted the challenge to befriend the internet and create a blog through a course at Cerritos College. Currently, I am a student in the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA, pronounced "slipa") program. It is a 2-year certificated program that I have managed to stretch into 4 years due to other responsibilities and no regrets. Through the encouragement of a speech therapist that I met while working as an elementary instructional aide, I enrolled in the program and have enjoyed every moment. There are no words to describe the satisfaction in learning something that fills a part of your soul that you never knew a passion existed. Perhaps they are not descriptive words at all, but the very first words spoken by the speech-delayed child whose parent thanks you for helping them "find their voice." Ideally, my goal is to work as a SLPA in an elementary school district. Additionally, I would enjoy the opportunity to give therapy on line via skype through up and coming companies.
This has been enjoyable for me. I hope it wasn't too painful for you. As it turns out, I think I'm going to like this blog trip (I wonder if they serve peanuts, or dog biscuits?)
